SPRING 2011
On Saturday evening, May 7, The New England Folk Music Archives and Rothman’s Gallery in Southold on Long Island will present an exhibition of exclusive archival photographs of the 1960s folk scene. After the opening, the extraordinary singer-songwriter Caroline Doctorow will perform, making the evening a folk event to remember.
Doors open at 4:30 PM. Ten-dollar ($10) tickets can be reserved by phoning 631 765 3770 or emailing Rothman’s. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The vintage photographs on display, which capture folk and roots performers and behind-the scenes moments, will hang through July 4th at Rothman’s Gallery. The show, curated by Shannon Flattery, Artistic Director of the Folk Music Archives, highlights the work of photographers like Bob Morey who lived the folk revival of the 1960s and Dick Waterman, whose images still startle with their intimacy. Photographs by acclaimed stage photographers Neale Eckstein, Walter Petrule, and Melissa Bugg will also be on view.
The New England Folk Music Archives documents, preserves, interprets and presents the ongoing cultural legacy of folk music in all its forms, with emphasis on New England’s contribution to the enrichment of North American life.
DOCTOROW
Caroline Doctorow, whose career boasts seven folk/Americana albums and a reputation for delivering a song with a velveteen voice, creates a bridge between the photographed 1960s and some of the best songs of the folk revival. Musically, she mixes her own compositions with those of her mentors to create a great evening of distinctly American songs.
Doctorow’s acclaimed album Another Country delivered a retrospective of the work of Mimi and Richard Fariña – folk singers from the 1960s who were emblematic of the Greenwich Village scene. The duo was Mimi Baez, Joan’s younger sister, and the Cuban/ Irish America Richard – once referred to as “a dark counterpart and equal adversary to Dylan” by album producer Pete Kennedy. Fariña’s songs bring the hipster language of
the moment together with ballads from the folk canon. Doctorow’s interpretations have been lauded by the music press, and will be on display May 7th at Rothman’s.

NEWS 2010
I will visit Vin Scelsa in the studios of WFUV on his ever popular radio show "Idiot's Delight." on Saturday evening March 21st. Vin is a legend in the radio world. Many remember him from his days as a DJ on New York's WNEW. Vin has had an extraordinary career in music. He was once a road manager for the great songwriter Townes Van Zandt, a music editor for Penthouse, and the co-creater of a music series at the Bottom Line called "A Bunch Of Songwriters Sittin' Around Singing." Vin's support of my record is encouraging beyond words...

Just come!
I hope my friends and neighbors will join me on Saturday March 28th at the every crazy and wild music room the Stephen Talkhouse in Amaganset. For two solid hours we'll play songs new and old, have some fun, and invite some very special guests onto the stage. Sort of a record release show. "Another Country" is now an "old baby" so not sure why we are doing this now- but it seems to be the thing to do. A little live music and wine will help
ease your worries, I promise! Only $10 at the door.
May 2nd I will open the show for world wonder Richie Havens at the IMAC Theater in Huntington.
This is a beautiful historic theater right on main street in downtown Huntington.
On record this time around I have recorded a song for a Kinks Tribute project that will be released this spring by the hot Long Island indie label Paradiddle Records. Pete Kennedy has produced a beautiful track for me and the stable of musicians on board for this project is impressive. Some of the artists live close by and others on larger isles.

A warm thanks to all the radio stations across the country that have been playing the new record. Your support is very encouraging and it's always thrilling to make the charts. (#4 Album Far Chart/KTRU and #15 Song Birmingham Sunday, "Festival Radio" for December).
Lufthansa Airlines added RAVEN GIRL (with Nanci Griffith) to their in-flight radio programming. If you are flying to Germany any time soon, tune into this radio show above the clouds...And speaking of far away places, many thanks to DJ Danny Watson in NSW Australia who has played the record on his folk show there for so many straight weeks. Certainly a first for me in that part of the world. Also to Barnes Newberry/WUMB Boston who was the first DJ to receive the record way back in the fall and he has been airing it almost weekly ever since.
